Mercury Roundup (Oct. 2): Upper Perk’s Watkins, Spring-Ford’s Alban score OT winners

BOYS SOCCER

Upper Perkiomen 3, Brandywine Heights 2

Highlights: Logan Watkins scored the game-winner with one second remaining in the first overtime to deliver UP a non-league win Saturday.

Watkins scored twice and David Schwab once in the win, while Evan Sands and Ethan Barr tallied assists.

Schwab sent the ball though to Barr with 10 seconds remaining in the first OT. Barr then sent it across to Watkins for the game winner with one second remaining in the first OT.

Spring-Ford 2, West Chester Henderson 1

Highlights: David Alban found the back of the net with a header off a Dylan Smith cross in overtime as the Rams took down Henderson in non-league action Saturday.

Justin Russell and Alban tallied goals for Spring-Ford, while Tyler Wellington and Dylan Smith added assists. Logan Hyduke made six saves.

Pottsgrove 1, Phoenixville 0

Highlights: Landon Shivak’s goal with 16 minutes left in the second half off a throw in by Troy Watts delivered the Falcons a PAC Frontier win Saturday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Owen J. Roberts 4, Garnet Valley 0

Highlights: Fiona Sanders netted a pair of goals, and Olivia Thompson and Alexa Vogelman both scored as the Wildcats cruised to a non-league win Saturday. It was OJR’s 10th shutout of the season.

Methacton 2, Wilson 2

Highlights: Wilson Keira Levingood tied the game with 3:42 left in regulation and neither team found a game-winner as the two squads finished in a non-league draw Saturday.

Kirsten O’Brien and Liv Navarrete tallied goals for Methacton, both assisted by Aubrey Beaugard. Goalkeeper Mairi Smith made six saves.

Downingtown West 2, Perkiomen Valley 1

Highlights: Maddi Greco scored off an assist by Ava Minnier with three minute left in overtime to down the Vikings in non-league play Saturday.

PV’s Gianna Mallee (assisted by Lily Tremba) and Downingtown’s Lanie Klapac also scored goals. PV goalie Julianna Sterchak made six saves.

FIELD HOCKEY

Fleetwood 5, Daniel Boone 1

Highlights: Casey Lynn Dewald tallied a hat trick and Aliyah Nelson scored two goals to knock off Boone on Saturday. Lauren Breisch added three assists and Casey Lynn Dewald one for Fleetwood.

Amanda Spotts tallied the Blazers’ lone goal off an assist from Aubrey Newman. Kaitlynn Gershen made five saves and Marlee Fetrow made two defensive saves.

Hill School 4, West Essex (N.J.) 0

No. 8 Hill picked up its third nationally ranked win of the season when it took down No. 11 West Essex Friday night. The win improved Hill to 7-1 on the season.

Rease Coleman had a hand in all four goals, tallying one score and an assist. Maddy Orsi also had three assists in the Hill win. Melea Weber scored twice for Hill, and Maggie Kondrath scored a goal and added an assist. Hala Silverstein made five saves for the shutout.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Methacton 3, Central Bucks West 2

Highlights: The Warriors knocked off C.B. West in five sets  (25-22, 25-21, 21-25, 21-25, 15-13) for a non-league win Friday.

Methacton was led by Mel Eglinton with 12 kills and Meg Haftl with 22 assists. Kayla Ginther (six aces), Eglinton (three) and Madi Roth (two) were strong in service for the Warriors.
