The Phoenixville field hockey team was in a win-and-in situation Monday against Pope John Paul II.
With the Pioneer Athletic Conference Final Four looming Tuesday, the Phantoms needed a victory over the Golden Panthers to clinch their playoff berth.
Nicole Thompson scored twice in the first half as Phoenixville earned its way into the Final Four, where it will play Owen J. Roberts on Tuesday at Upper Perkiomen High School.
Aubrie Breisblatt assisted on Thompson’s first goal on a corner. Lucy O’Donnell assisted on the other Thompson score. Grace Drewicz tallied a second-half goal for PJP.
Boys Golf
Norristown’s Josh Ryan, Boyertown’s John Engle, Daniel Boone’s Dalton Yeager and Methacton’s Jeff Cooper advanced to the second day of the PIAA East Region Boys’ Golf Tournament on Monday at Golden Oaks Golf Course in Fleetwood, Pa.
Ryan’s even-par round of 72 was five shots off Conestoga junior Morgan Lofland, who led the first-day scoring with a five-under 67. Engle finished with a one-under 73, and Yeager finished with a three-over 75.
Cooper, who finished with a four-over 76, earned a spot in the tournament’s second day on the second playoff hole. Owen J. Roberts’ Conrad Benford also competed Monday.
West-Mont 3, Salem Christian 0 >> West-Mont moved into the Atlantic Coast Christian Athletic Conference Final Four with Monday’s win over Salem Christian.
Sam Landis (assist), Josh Fitzmier and Caleb Fitzmier had goals for West-Mont. Goalkeeper Michah Hallman made four saves.
West-Mont will face Upper Bucks Christian in the ACCAC semifinals on Friday.

Phoenixville 3, Academy Park 0 >> The Phantoms use scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-20 to pick up the non-league sweep Monday.
Phoenixville leaders included Alexa Grammerstorf (two aces, 11 kills), Avery Stackhouse (two aces, three kills, five digs), Sophia Spoto (five aces, two kills, 23 assists) and Maria Coll (four aces, five digs).
